It’s week 11 of 12 here at Code Louisville. There are no required courses on Treehouse left. This week has been spent working on my individual project and beginning a couple of side project opportunities to keep the learning moving forward, and add some items to my portfolio. Job hunting is also becoming a primary focus now.
With Code Louisville almost finished, I have to find a position now where I can utilize these new skills and develop them further while contributing to an organization. I’m searching for a position where I can use my HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and hopefully, my WordPress skills as well.
I also will need to make a decision soon on what track to pursue next. Code Louisville is made up of two twelve week sessions. The first track is front-end web development focusing on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The second session typically focuses more on back-end or server-side development.
If I had a job that focused on a particular area, I would take the appropriate course to further develop my skills in that area. Without a developer job in place, I have to guess what would be most valuable to an employer. The options at Code Louisville vary depending on demand from session to session. It looks like the options for the second track will be full stack JavaScript, iOS development, or .net development. PHP may also be offered.
With those choices in mind, I am trying to decide between PHP, and full-stack JavaScript. Most of the input I have received thus far has been to stick with full stack JavaScript. But, I also feel PHP would be extremely helpful, with WordPress development in particular. Then again, iOS development sounds really fun!
One of the great things about Code Louisville is that you gain access to Treehouse for 18 months after graduation. You can also pursue additional tracks during those 18 months. Therefore, I could actually pursue both, or all of the tracks, one at a time of course.
I still have a couple of weeks to make a decision. If you have any input, I would love to hear it! Next week is the final week of my front-end web development track at Code Louisville. It will likely be focused on project refinement and completion.
That’s it for Code Louisville this week. See you all next week!
