I’m just back from Code PaLousa! If you are not familiar with Code PaLOUsa, it is a conference for developers held in Louisville, Kentucky. It was held Wednesday, June 7th through Friday, June 9th. While it certainly had a strong selection of classes for .Net developers, the conference is open to all developers. There are plenty of classes for everyone from web developers to IT managers.
Classes range from CSS Flexbox, to building an Amazon Echo app, to using Swift to program the Apple Watch. There are even design-oriented lectures as well.
I attended the pre-conference classes on Wednesday. I took a class entitled “Getting Git” by Jason McCreary, in the morning and “Apple Watch Development with Swift” by Jeff Kelley, in the afternoon. The Git training was an excellent refresher and the Apple Watch class was right in line with the Swift for iOS training I am currently learning at Code Louisville.
On Thursday and Friday I took a range of classes. I won’t list them all, but I’ll name a few that I attended to give you an idea of the range of subjects available at the conference. I attended: “So You Want to Build a Mobile App,” “Making the Unstable Stable – An Introduction to Testing,” “Using CSS Flexbox: How to Craft Responsive layouts without Grid Systems,” “What’s New in TypeScript,” “Taming the SVG Beast – What, When, How,” “Fishing Instructor 101 – Being An Effective Mentor,” “Hey You Got Static Types in my JavaScript,” and “JavaScript is Not a Dirty Word.”
There were even more classes for .Net developers. There really were more classes than I can list here, but some of the others focused on Ruby, Docker, Java, Xamarin, security, health issues, project management, and more. The were lots of networking opportunities and job recruiters at the conference as well.
Code PaLOUsa is held annually and is the premier developer conference for Louisville. There really is a little something for everyone. You can find out more details about the conference on the Code PaLOUsa website. With incredible sponsors like CBS Interactive, Elastic, and UPS, to name just a few, it is a top notch conference. It is definitely worth attending. If you have never been, you should definitely make plans to attend next year’s conference.
