If you would like to learn to use a FTP client to upload files from your Mac to your self-hosted WordPress installation then I have a video for you! Learning to use FTP is easy, once someone shows you how to do it.
I recently set up my own self-hosted WordPress website. Being a newbie WordPress blogger a couple of issues have come up. I wanted to manually back up some files before doing an update. I also wanted the ability to upload files directly to my website hosting account. I wasn’t sure exactly how to do this so I began searching for FTP information.
I was just getting a little discouraged about being able to find what I was looking for when I found YourWebsiteEngineer.com by Dustin Hartzler. Dustin has a blog website that features webinar video recordings and audio podcasts. His audio podcast is also available on iTunes. His website is an excellent resource if you are interested in learning more about WordPress and blogging.
In the list of webinar videos featured on his site, I was excited to find one that focused on FTP. The Learn to FTP webinar video focuses on the basics of selecting an FTP program, setting it up, and using it to work with files in WordPress. He demonstrates how to download and use Cyberduck, a free FTP program for Mac (and Windows). He demonstrates what files and folders you should normally access and work with in WordPress, and he even shows how to make common changes in WordPress files.
This is a basic getting started with FTP video for beginners. If you have been trying to figure out how to use an FTP client to work with WordPress, then this is the video for you. Dustin covers the basics of FTP, and he even includes a free downloadable PDF with a copy of the slides he uses in the video. Check it out. I think you’ll find the video and the website helpful in learning how to use FTP and WordPress.
